America consumes a surprising amount of energy. According to
Solar Energy International, America uses 15 times more energy than other
nations. And even more alarming is that most of the energy comes from
non-renewable resources. This is bothersome because non-renewable resources are
just that, non-renewable. There’s only a matter of time before there are no
resources left. Creating green jobs is the perfect way for America to survive
and thrive without relying on diminishing resources.

The Importance of Renewable Energy

There are several sources of renewable energy. The sun
provides solar energy, the wind provides wind energy, and water provides hydro

Good green jobs pay well, have a positive impact on the planet, and provide room for advancement. Green job opportunities are open to anyone willing to learn a new skill or amend an existing one.

Can Green Jobs Reduce Poverty?

It’s believed that green jobs will help millions of lower- and middle-class move into a new tax bracket. Most of the jobs require nothing more than a high school education. Green Jobs Now: The Green Economy is Here

On September 27th, 2008, a national day of action took place all over America. Millions of people showed their dedication to cleaning up the planet by participating in Green Jobs Now. Hundreds of environmentally conscious events took place, many in urban and low-income communities. People planted gardens, increased their recycling efforts, and spread the word about the growing green-collar sector.

Building a Green-Collar Economy

It’s clear that people are ready for green jobs now. These jobs are part of a new economy that moves away from waste and towards preservation. The focus is on energy efficiency, conservation, bio-fuels, and solar energy. Not only will green jobs help the environment, but they will also provide much needed jobs in a struggling economy.

You may not know it, but former president George Bush signed a Green Jobs Act in 2007. The Green Jobs Act allocated $125 million for training programs that help lower-class families, the unemployed, veterans, and teenagers enter the green-job market.
